There are few features that communicate more than your eyes, but if they’re cloaked behind drooping eyelids, your message may not be heard. No matter how bright-eyed you may feel, aging eyelids can cast a shadow over your appearance, making you look older and more tired than you feel. To restore youth and vitality to your face, why not consider a blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery?
At Limitless Med Spa, we provide an extensive array of services that are designed to help clients in Spring, Texas achieve their cosmetic goals. One of the more popular surgeries we offer is eyelid surgery, which perennially ranks in the top five surgical procedures in the United States.
Here’s how blepharoplasty can turn back the clock on aging eyes.
BEHIND THE DROOP
Your eyes are some of the first areas to show signs of aging, including the skin surrounding your eyes (think crow’s feet) and the lids themselves. The first reason for this is that the skin around your eyes is very thin and fragile. When the natural aging process robs your tissue of structural support — namely elastin and collagen — your eyelids are among the first areas to succumb to the deficit.
This loss of tone and elasticity in your tissue causes your eyelids to droop down as the tissue loses tone and the thin layer of fat is no longer held in place.
Second, age can weaken the muscles in your eyelids, and without this support system, your tissue can sag.
Furthermore, if you’ve inherited naturally puffy eyelids, the aging effect is magnified since there’s more tissue to begin with.
OPENING UP THROUGH A BLEPHAROPLASTY
Eyelid surgery is among the less invasive surgical options when it comes to cosmetic surgery. We perform the procedure on an outpatient basis, and it typically only takes us an hour or two. Rest assured that before getting started we address your comfort with either local or general anesthesia.
If we’re tackling your upper lids only, we make a small incision along the natural crease of your eyelid to camouflage the tiny scar, and we remove any excess tissue and fat. We may also adjust your eyelid muscles to better effect. Then we simply suture the eyelid back together along the small incision.
If we’re also addressing your lower lids, we can usually make the incision along your lash line to access the extra fat or to tighten your tissue.
AFTER YOUR BLEPHAROPLASTY
After your procedure, we send you home with complete aftercare instructions. You should expect some bruising and swelling, which you can easily handle with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications and cold compresses. You should also plan on taking it easy for a few days afterward.
In about 10-14 days after your eyelid surgery, you should be ready to face the public with eyes wide open.
